Green -Gold Ride is Back!

Scheduled for Sunday, 6 June 2010 and hosted by Laksamana Cycle Club in collaboration with the Majlis Sukan Negeri Pulau Pinang. This time, it is going to be a bigger event than the warm-up event held in January.

There will be a slight modification of the route which will make the distance about 35km. The ride will still be easy, passing through the padi fields and kampungs of Penaga - KualaMuda.

Gathering at 6.30am. Flag-off at 7am sharp. Marshalling point is at the car park of Taman Robina recreation area near the beach.

Light food and refreshment will be provided at the half way point, near Kuala Muda town.

The PDRM, RELA and St. Johns Ambulance Brigade will be there to provide the necessary traffic control and support.

The Green Gold Ride is scheduled for Sunday, 17 January 2010.
Start point is in front of SMK Telok Air Tawar - opposite Caltex petrol station.

Gathering at 6.45am. Take -off at 7.00am sharp.

The ride will take you through the picturesque padi fields around
Penaga, up to Kuala Muda fishing village and back to the start point.
There will be a rest stop near the Kuala Muda beach area for rest and light
refreshments and photo session. You can also catch a view of Penang Island from the mainland.
The Kuala Muda beach area was hit by the Boxing Day Tsunami back in 2004.

The going will be slow and easy. This is not a race! There will be plenty of opportunities for
photo breaks and the chance to catch the idyllic scenes of the rural countryside with swaying coconut palms and green gold padi fields.

Green gold ride in collaboration with Penang State Sports Council on 17.01.2010. A short 24 km Family early morning ride through the green green padi fields & several malay kampungs in Northern Seberang Perai.

Kuala Muda is a small fishing village located at the mouth of Sungai Muda.

Since ancient times, Kuala Muda is one of Kedah's most important ports.
There is a fort at Kuala Muda, called Kota Kuala Muda, which was built in the 18th century.

Kota Kuala Muda continued to flourish after the British occupied Penang Island, stimulated by the rise in trade and prosperity of Penang. In 1811 Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin made Kuala Muda his residence, to escape increasing pressure from the Thai. When the Thais invaded Kedah in 1821, he was still living in Mudla Muda. Eventually, however, he went into exile in Penang

The Thais occupied Kedah for 21 years. During this time the economy of Kedah suffered under their rule, and the glory days of Kuala Muda as a significant port came to an end.

Kuala Muda was one of the areas badly hit by the December 2004 tsunami. As a result of the tsunami, over 4000 people had to be evacuated and placed in temporary shelter in 8 schools.
